Advertising
Advertising produces professionals in all fields of communications, including research, creative and media management as well as marketing, promotions and media sales. Advertising majors receive a well-rounded professional education which features hands-on and real-world experiences in working with clients. All members of the advertising faculty are experienced in a wide range of media and agency programs. The basic advertising program includes a principles course, along with work in copy and layout, media planning and a capstone campaigns course where students work as independent agencies for their own clients producing an advertising campaign.
Elective courses provide opportunities to compete on a regional and national level against students in other advertising departments on case book competitions, to create radio and television ads and to buy advertising for a client. Other elective courses allow students to learn the latest computer-assisted advertising programs, study public relations and participate in internships at advertising agencies, newspapers and in the electronic media. Summer interns head for their hometown media as well as the country's largest cities for media and agency experience.
The advertising department uses its widespread network of contacts, alumnus and professional associates to help advertising students find internships during their college careers and full-time jobs upon graduation.
