Admission, retention, and graduation requirements of the MS&E graduate programs (M.S. and Ph.D.) conform to Oklahoma State University's Graduate College admission requirements, as detailed in the current University Catalog. Admission criteria for the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in the MS&E program will be consistent with the admission criteria of other engineering graduate programs at OSU as well as leading MS&E programs at other universities in the U.S. Engineering graduate programs are not normally subject to accreditation reviews.
Graduate candidates for admission would be expected to have a B.S. degree in a mainstream engineering discipline from an ABET accredited (or equivalent) program, although students with a B.S. in MS&E specialization will be given preference. Alternately, B.S. students from other disciplines, such as chemistry, physics, and biology with emphasis on materials-related topics, may also be considered. Students should have an undergraduate GPA of 3.25 (or an equivalent) or higher. Three letters of recommendations, a statement of research interest and GRE (general test scores) will be used in admission decisions. These criteria are generally deemed necessary for the student to be successful within the curriculum. However, applicants not quite meeting these standards may be granted probationary admission and/or required to take leveling classes, based upon their overall academic and professional practice, history, accomplishments, and standardized test scores, as determined by the Program Coordinator/Director and MS&E Admissions Committee. Where English is not the native language, students must have scored above 550 on the paper based TOEFL or above 79 Internet based TOEFL. Upon arrival, students seeking financial support should pass the English speaking and writing tests administered by the University.
The MS&E School/Department Head, Raj N. Singh, is a tenured MS&E faculty member whose primary teaching and research interests are in MS&E. He reports to the Dean of CEAT. His duties include administration, recruitment of faculty, facilitation of the school's teaching and research, and the monitoring and improvement of instructor performance. An Associate Head or Graduate Program Coordinator, who would also be a tenured or tenured-track faculty member in MS&E with a graduate school appointment, will assist him. Appointment to this position will be made from existing faculty. His/her duties will include assessment, evaluation and enhancement of the curriculum, coordination of the on and off-campus class schedules and offerings with the various departments of OSU, preparation and submission of assessment plans and reports and academic program reviews, and advisement of graduate students who serve as teaching assistants. The admission of graduate students in the School of MS&E is the function of the Graduate College; the Graduate Coordinator of MS&E provides recommendations for admission. His/her other duties will include selection and recruitment of students to the graduate programs, advising research assistants on issues other than research, and marketing the program.
In addition, several faculty members in Engineering, Biological and Physical Sciences from OSU-Stillwater, who are active in materials-related research and teaching, will supplement the MS&E faculty located at OSU-Tulsa in both teaching and research, working through a joint appointment or affiliation with the School of MS&E.
Most materials science and engineering text books and journals are currently available in the OSU library; Also many of the journals are available electronically through the library; these are readily available to OSU-Tulsa via Internet.

Many of the faculty members who are conducting cutting-edge research on materials at both OSU-Stillwater and OSU-Tulsa have state-of-the-art research facilities that can supplement the general or core facilities at OSU. Adequate space is available for expansion of classroom, laboratory, and office space for both graduate students and faculty as well as for the location of equipment in the HRC.
