This version can be taken Monday through Friday during our hours of operation. Examinees will complete registration for the test when they arrive.

Required Identification:

  • Two forms of ID are required.
  • One form of ID must include a photo and a signature. Examples of this ID are a driver's license, school identification card, government-issued identification card or passport.
  • A second form of ID may include a credit card, library card, utility bill, or another ID from the above list with your name and address appearing exactly the same as on the first form of identification.

Description:
The Miller's Analogies Test (MAT) is a high-level, analytic ability test that requires the solution of problems stated as analogies. It consists of 120 partial analogies that are to be completed in 60 minutes. OSU-Tulsa Testing Services offers the electronic version of the test.

The MAT test includes 100 core items that count toward the examinee's score and 20 experimental items that are being field-tested for future use on new test forms. The experimental items may include verbal, quantitative, or figural analogies and may be located anywhere in the test. These items will not count toward the examinee's score.

The MAT is intended to measure ability to recognize relationships between ideas; fluency in the English language; and general knowledge of literature, philosophy, history, science, mathematics, and fine arts. There is no foreign-language edition of the MAT. Use of a dictionary or any other reference aid is not permitted when taking the MAT.

Scoring Information:
Answers will be scored electronically and will be transmitted and processed immediately. Examinees will receive an unofficial printout of their score report. In approximately two weeks, an official score report will be sent to the examinee and to the score recipients the examinee selected.

Examinees may specify up to three score recipients when taking the MAT. These recipients will be covered by the test fee. If examinees wish to request additional score recipients, they must send in a written request to Harcourt Assessment and pay an additional fee of $25 for each recipient.

Policies and Procedures:

  1. Each examinee must bring the following items: payment, primary photo/signature ID, and secondary ID.
  2. If an examinee is retesting within 12 months, he or she must also bring a Retest Admission Ticket from Harcourt Assessment, Inc.
  3. Examinees are not permitted to bring any other materials with them into the testing room, including calculators, books, papers, notes, cell phones, cameras, recording devices, pagers, any reference materials, and food or beverages.
  4. Examinees may not wear or take a hat with a bill or brim into the testing room unless worn for a religious or medical reason, in which case an Accommodations Request Form and the appropriate documentation explaining the need for this accommodation must be submitted.
  5. Visitors are not allowed in the testing room.
  6. There are no rest breaks during the test, and no one is permitted to leave the testing room until the end of the test.
  7. Examinees are not permitted to ask any questions after the test begins; they should ask all questions before the test begins.
  8. Any examinee who gives or receives assistance during the test will be required to immediately turn in all test materials and leave the room. His/Her test will not be scored, and there will be no refund.
  9. Failure to follow instructions, or supply complete information, can delay the processing of an examinee's score.

Retesting policy:
After taking the MAT, examinees will receive both a personal score report and a Retest Admission Ticket which indicates their MAT testing history. Examinees must bring this Retest Admission Ticket with them if they plan to retake the MAT within a 12-month period so that the test administrator can assign an alternate form of the test. If the examinee has lost his/her retest admission ticket and wishes to retake the MAT, he/she must write to Harcourt Assessment to request a replacement. For more information on how to request a replacement ticket, see www.milleranalogies.com.

Study Guides:
For the steps to solving MAT analogies, a discussion of the types of relationships in MAT analogies, a description of the content of MAT analogies, test-taking strategies for the MAT, and sample analogies and annotated answers; examinees may pick up a Candidate Information Booklet in North Hall 103. A practice test in addition to all of the above information can be found at the following website: www.milleranalogies.com.

Testing for Students with Disabilities:
It is important that examinees notify Testing Services staff of their special testing needs prior to the desired test date. Contact Margie Axford at 918-594-8354 to request special testing accommodations. Braille, large-print, and audio editions of the MAT are available for examinees with visual impairments, and, if necessary, a reader will be provided.
