Math Tutoring

Tutoring Services is a quiet environment where students can work on assignments at their own pace with a qualified and experienced tutor available to answer questions and guide them. Tutoring Services is equipped with TI-83, financial and standard calculators, various OSU course textbooks and other math reference books and handouts.

A one-on-one, 50-minute tutorial is one of the primary services. During the tutorial, students meet with a trained and experienced math tutor who will assist with the student's particular math needs.The format of the tutoring session is flexible to fit the student's individual needs. Students having difficulty may want to schedule multiple appointments to ensure a tutor is available when necessary.

Courses that students commonly seek help in are linear algebra, calculus, and statistics.  Our math tutors may, however, be able to help in other courses with math components.  Students should call to inquire whether a tutor can help with their special math needs.

Please be aware that it is our policy not to work problems for students but rather teach students techniques for solving problems themselves.

How does a Math Tutorial work?

  • Make an appointment by calling us, stopping by or emailing Tutoring Services.
  • Bring textbooks, practice problems or assignments so the tutor can review them.
  • Plan to spend about 50 minutes to one hour with a math tutor. Students can also work at their own pace with the tutor available to answer questions.

Emergency Calculator Loan Program

To assist students with their courses, Tutoring Services offers a calculator checkout program where students can borrow a calculator on loan. Students who wish to obtain additional information about this program should call 918-594-8232 or stop by North Hall 103 to speak with a staff member. Calculators available in this program include the TI-83 Plus (graphing), HP 10BII (financial) and TI-1706SV (standard). In order to check out one of the calculators, the following requirements must be met:

  1. A valid OSU student ID will be held until the calculator is returned. A driver’s license will not be accepted.
  2. Calculators can be checked out for a maximum of 24 hours. (If checked out on Friday, calculators may be returned on Monday).
  3. Calculators must be returned in the same condition as when they were checked out. Students will be held liable for any damage to a calculator while it is in their possession.
  4. If a calculator is not returned in the allotted time, a hold will be placed on the student's enrollment account until the calculator is returned or Tutoring Services is reimbursed for the cost of the calculator.
  5. Calculators can only be checked out five times per semester.
  6. If the calculator is not returned within 24 hours, the student will not be allowed to check it out again for the remainder of the semester.
