The test fee is $75 for the computer-based MAT. This fee may be paid by credit card. Current OSU students may also pay by check or charge to their bursar account.
Examinees should contact the Testing Center to arrange an appointment for the computer-based MAT. Walk-ins are accepted, but we recommend scheduling an appointment to ensure that a computer is available. The MAT can be taken Monday through Friday during our hours of operation. Examinees will register for the test when they arrive.
The Miller Analogies Test (MAT) is a high-level, analytic ability test that requires the solution of problems stated as analogies. It consists of 120 partial analogies that are to be completed in 60 minutes. The OSU-Tulsa Testing Center offers the electronic version of the test.
The MAT test includes 100 core items that count toward the examinee's score and 20 experimental items that are being field-tested for future use on new test forms. The experimental items may include verbal, quantitative or figural analogies and may be located anywhere in the test. These items will not count toward the examinee's score.
The MAT is intended to measure ability to recognize relationships between ideas, fluency in the English language and general knowledge of literature, philosophy, history, science, mathematics and fine arts. There is no foreign-language edition of the MAT. Use of a dictionary or any other reference aid is not permitted when taking the MAT.
Exams are scored electronically and will be transmitted and processed immediately. Examinees will receive an unofficial printout of their score report upon completion of the exam. In approximately two weeks, an official score report will be sent to the examinee and to the score recipients selected by the examinee.
Examinees may specify up to three score recipients when taking the MAT. These recipients are covered by the test fee. If examinees wish to request additional score recipients, they must send in the MAT Optional Services Request Form (PDF) to Pearson Assessment and pay an additional $25 fee for each recipient.
For test-taking strategies, a study guide, and practice exams, visit the Miller Analogies Test website. Three practice exams are available for $30 each.
It is important that examinees notify Testing Center staff of their special testing needs prior to the desired test date. Contact Student Disability Services to request special testing accommodations. Braille, large-print and audio editions of the MAT are available for examinees with visual impairments, and a reader will be provided if necessary.
